I am sure most of you have heard about the Balenciaga $8,000 jacket or the $11,410 Balmain jacket (pictured above) that is sold out in net-a-porter.
Well, with this and the clothes that a normal person can afford in mind, it is obvious that clothes are overpriced.
Over a conversation with a friend I mentioned how ridiculous it is when a store has 70% discounts and still has a large profit (or else they would not do it).
She informed me that her family has a factory making some clothes of a very well known brand and all the expenses for a shirt are $2-3 when we buy it $90.
So what I believe is that the situation with shopping these years is ridiculous. Personally I never buy something expensive that is not on sale. It is just not worth it.
i definately think this is true in some instances but some pieces from designer are so special and hand made that they are worth the money. either go really high or really low, middle lines are always over priced and not worth it for me.

Clothes are def. overpriced... but you pay for image as always
ReplyDeleteAs clothes they are overpriced, but I things aren't always worth the sum of their parts. If we thought that way about a painting, for example, few would average more than a hundred dollars. People say fashion isn't art, and I say it isn't necessarily, but art really is subjective.
ReplyDeletei know!! what the hell, right! i mean, come on, 11 grand for a jacket...there are people who live on less than $2 a day, and then people are putting stuff like this out--the balance is way off dont you think!
ReplyDeleteBalmain and Balenciaga are both labels that take exclusivity very seriously, and the only way to maintain exclusivity is to make something unobtainable to most people. In recent years Balenciaga has been steering closer to mainstream high end labels, what with their bags (not cheap, but not obscenely overpriced), but the collection clothing will always be very expensive (they do also have diffusion lines with simple pieces at somewhat reasonable prices).
ReplyDeletebalmain is very very overpriced yet it sells out everytime, which is amazing esp. in these times. i think it's a waste to buy something so overexposed, it's very much a one season jacket.
ReplyDeletei definately agree, i hate how 2% of the worlds population owns 90% of our world because they have so much money, im doing an essay for uni right now about how the greed in the world is unbelievable and how if it wasnt considered charity, but as something everday people do to give to causes then they would get more money but since its not obligatory people dont feel guilty for not giving lol
