The Chanel logo is on the Armani building in Hong Kong, and for it he got charged about $850,000 even though he claims it was done with water-based paint which is easy to remove.

I have been following Panos Yiapanis' work for some time now, and after his photo on Jack and Jill I thought it's time to do a post.
He is from Cyprus, a tinny island country close to Greece, and I'm amazed with how far he has gone.

He styles Givenchy's advertisements since 2007, Rick Owens fashion shows since 2002, and, he has also worked with Karl Lagerfeld as a photographer.

It's amazing how he takes haute couture pieces and makes them grunge and mystical.
The shots with Tilda Swinton leave me speechless.

Piet Mondrian, one of my favorite artists of the 20th century, has left his mark and continues to inspire until today.

Mondrian was the most important figures of the De Stil movement. De Stil was created as an answer to the world war, and wanted to express a utopia, a universal language through basic forms and colors.
Of course, as I have said in another post, back then there was a point of doing things, the artists aimed at something, but now, it's just for decoration purposes and money.

These are some pieces inspired by Mondrian's paintings:

and there are more, many more brands like DVF, Vans, Yohji Yamamoto, and Dior that have created accessories and clothes inspired by the master of De Stil, but, for no specific reason like he did when creating his paintings.

I'm still in the cartoon mood from my last post so I thought this would be very interesting.

Buzz Lightyear was on board Nasa's space shuttle Discovery STS-128 mission and was in space for 15 months! According to Nasa, "Buzz supported NASA's education outreach program by creating a series of fun educational online outreach programs."
So, it appears that this program was very successful and Disney and Nasa are collaborating for a competition involving all school kids across America to design an experiment for the astronauts to do when in space! Details will be released by Nasa on Oct. 2.

When in middle school/ early high school, I was obsessed with space! I wanted to become an astronaut or at least work for Nasa.. but obviously it cannot happen.. Anyway, I used to visit Nasa's website every single day and was sooo jealous of these student programs they had!

Isn't it just crazy to think some people have been outside Earth?

Since I got bored of NY fashion week, I am doing a post of something non-fw related..

It is so interesting and amusing to see the fashion world collaborating with the magic world of animation!

Stella McCartney: featured Disney's Bambi for her Autumn/Winter '09 ads.

Marc Jacobs: August 20th, Miss Piggy dropped by Marc's show room in NYC in order to get a custom made dress to wear at Chicago’s Glamorama 2009: A Night of Fashion and Music Tickets.

Bazaar: In celebration of 40 years of Sesame Street, the September 09 Issue of Bazaar did this amazing photoshoot with the protagonists and designers, amongst others Oscar de la Renta.

Uniqlo: It is rumored that Uniqlo will team up with The Walt Disney Company for some Disney-themed apparel! It is supposed to be out soon..

Personally, I love cartoons, especially Disney, so I am enjoying these collaborations!

Finally the photos of Marc Jacobs S/S10 are up!

I read at several articles that the entire room was white, it had very bright lighting, and there was no runway! How cool is that? Minimalism at its max!

And then come the clothes...
According to nymag.com, while backstage, Marc said: "All the world's a stage! Everything's beautiful at the ballet! Life is a cabaret!"
Everything seems so playful and romantic but yet very modern.
As Marc said, "it wasn't a period researched, it's the idea with playing with clothes"

The 2nd dress is ooo soooo pretty!!! I love the colors and froufrou things! Those shades of colors are my favorite.
As of my favorite bag that is the 4th one, the snake skin that has touches of the same color as the dress. And the purple one below..
And the shoes are so different than everything else we see.. so refreshing!

Although I love watching movies at home, I am really stricked with what movies I see at the theaters, and, The September Issue was one of them. It was so much better that I thought it would be!

What I really liked is that they gave a lot of attention to how they prepare the photoshoots.

What was also amazing to see is the relationship of Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington. Anna is glamorous and authoritarian while Grace is artsy and cool.. it's like they complete each other and thus bring a balance to the magazine... and we all know the result of their work.

So, if you haven't seen The September Issue, you should go as soon as you can..

Fashion Purism and a bit of an Art History lesson

This post is similar to the previous one but, I couldn't resist when I saw the images of Mary Katrantzou's clothes on the Greek Grazia. They call her the next big thing and she was also praised by style.com.
Her designs gave me the idea of doing a post on Purism since her clothes have an obvious connection with it.

Purism is an art style which developed in the 1920s. Through Purism in painting and architecture, the artists wanted to apply to everyday life aesthetic and organization of form. But of course, people then had a reason to for doing it in reaction to certain situations, while now, it’s all about fashion and money.

I first got the thought of architecture into fashion when I saw the photo of Mary Kate Olsen with the Balenciaga booties. There is so much volume is specific places and the entire outfit is balanced.

This made me look for architectural designs in the runways.

I was at a friend's house today and opened a well known Greek magazine, Grazia, and, I was surprised when I saw the exact same photos and ideas as my first post in the blog! It is about the similarity of Dior Couture 2009 and the first line of Dior from 1947.

Since middle school I have been wearing Converse All Stars, and still am.
At some point they became in fashion Athens, where I live, and everyone was wearing them. A bit frustrating but I got over it.

What I am upsessed now is the make your own application and I am trying to figure out the perfect color for me.
On the make your own at converse.com you can pick almost every shape of converse shoes! I have picked the red version which is for charity and many brands have it.

The ones I will get are probably something like this:

Also, I saw these in a converse store and I was very amused, but would never buy, plastic glow-in-the-dark...

Vans shoes also have a make your own application!

Sasha Pivovarova

Usually I am not very into models, I don't have a lot of appreciation for them because I see it from the artists point of view of the designer and photographer. Models are directed to do whatever the artist wants. Some of them do have an attitude like Agyness Deyn, but I just like them.
But, Sasha Pivovarova has captured my attention. She has a fabulous sense her personal style, attitude, and a beautiful face!

A few facts about her:

MET Costume Institute Gala

The Costume Institute Gala first photos just got posted!

Generally, I am not very interested in event outfits of the 'stars' but, the Costume Institute Gala is not just outfits... they are couture dresses you never get to see worn again. They are art!

There are a lot of appearances I did not like. But the most disappointing ones are Victoria Beckham, who entered with Lorenzo Martone, Marc Jacobs' fiance, and Kate Moss who entered with Marc. The dresses are ok but the ladies not so much.. I mean Victoria is orange!!
They were both dressed in Marc Jacobs, who I usually love. :(

ps. Only Madonna could wear the Louis Vuitton headpiece! She looks like she is having so much fun playing around with pieces no one else can get!

Once again, Marc Jacobs revealed his genius in his new collection. These images are just perfect.
With the sunglasses, the 80s look needs nothing more!
ooh... and when the show photos came out, I was shocked with the so many different amazing haircuts!!

But these bags, I don't really like...

Not only I love his clothes, but I think the whole mentality of the brand is amazing, with all the huge parties, it's all about fun! But at the same time, Marc and Robert Duffy have done over 60 charities!
I am really amazed with the fame Marc Jacobs has gotten the past 5 yrs that I've been following him and I think we're going to see much more of him.

I know... it is a movie just for the cash but I am happy to see Johnny Depp in any kind of movie. He can balance the good and the bad and has an incredible talent so that makes it ok for me!

Chloe Sevigny designed (for the second time) a line for Opening Ceremony. The weird and amazing thing is that this Fall 09 line is unisex!

I find it very interesting because I don't know any other designer unisex lines, but if they are like this one, I don't think I would like them...
It will be out in a limited production and Chloe stated that she doesn't "want to do it every season. That gets boring. I want to do it kind of here and there."

Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors because not only he has talent, but has a unique personality -or at least that's what he brings out.
One of the things I admire about him is that he takes up so many different roles and plays with appearance.

This is a photo of Depp, in the pose of Marchel Duchamp's alter ego, Rrose Selavy, who was basically him dressed as a woman.

Marchel Duchamp is a very well known early 20th century artist and I just found very interesting that Depp posed as he did...

Disney's Earth

Disney is coming up with a new film called Earth.
It is produced by this new thing Disney is starting called Disneynature and it will go through the some of the most extreme environments.

It will be released on Earth Day, April 22nd and I encourage everyone to go see it in theaters because for every ticket, Disney will plant a tree (I hope it is true).
In any case, I will definitely go see it!

Until 2001 there was no Oscar category for animated films, only short animations. Probably because Disney would get it every year? haha

I am sure most of you have heard about the Balenciaga $8,000 jacket or the $11,410 Balmain jacket (pictured above) that is sold out in net-a-porter.
Well, with this and the clothes that a normal person can afford in mind, it is obvious that clothes are overpriced.
Over a conversation with a friend I mentioned how ridiculous it is when a store has 70% discounts and still has a large profit (or else they would not do it).
She informed me that her family has a factory making some clothes of a very well known brand and all the expenses for a shirt are $2-3 when we buy it $90.

So what I believe is that the situation with shopping these years is ridiculous. Personally I never buy something expensive that is not on sale. It is just not worth it.

I [Heart] Ronson is a new line of Charlotte Ronson for J.C. Penney. It will include mostly sportswear and everyday stuff and will start on April 3rd.

The previous collaboration of Ronson was with Urban Outfitters which landed me some shoes (photo below). The color and shape is amazing and they are extremely comfortable!

I love this "funerary" shade of purple.
Also on my list to buy are these See by Chloe shoes. They only negative is that they are plastic. But this is what makes them be in an attractive price.

Christian Louboutin made a special edition pump for Barneys NY. It is sold in all the department stores for around $900 if I remeber correctly.

They are cool. A lot of wierd things are stuck on them like rope, parts of newspapers, cartoons and post stamps under a plastic that keeps them together.

If you have a Barneys near you, you should check them out!

I recently found out that Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand (a band I love) is a chef.

He has written the book Sound Bites: Eating on Tour with Franz Ferdinand and also wrote on weekly food columns. But he recently said that being a chef is taking over his music career since he even got offers for his own cooking show on tv... so he quit.

Well... since he is half Greek I was not surprised that he is into cooking...

I always liked the clothes of 3.1 Phillip Lim but in this runway show I just didn't feel it.

Although the clothes are good and I love the style in general, the hair of the models is just disturbing!!
The second model on the picture looks like the Ramones. . . but I guess that was the point. haha
